What is Black Rice?

Variety of rice which has been growing in india for centuries.

Black rice is loaded with antioxidants and gets its dark color from the antioxidant known as anthocyanins.


It has the highest protein and fiber of any species of rice.

The high fiber in black rice helps to suppress your appetite and hence black rice is ideal for weight loss and weight management.

In olden days black rice was also known as a forbidden rice or emperors rice as only the Royals were served this ancient grain.

Generally soaked black rice is cooking.


Easy Recipe: How to cook black rice 


Black Rice cooked in a 1 is to 2 ratio but since I'm cooking only a small amount the ratio is 1 is to 4 that is for 1/4 cup of black rice.


I'm using 1 cup of water black rice does take a longer time to cook than other rice and especially when it is being cooked in smaller quantities.

It takes little more time and extra soaking.


Step 1

- Black Rice water it's ideal to soak the black rice for 20 to 30 minutes as it takes longer time to cook than refined rice into a bowl and in 1/4 cup of black rice.


Step 2

- Pour in some water, wash and rinse it a couple of times 


Step 3

- Then allow it to soak for about 20 to 30 minutes.


Step 4

- Once soaked transfer the rice into a saucepan


Step 5

- In one cup of water pink Himalayan salt as needed and cook on high flame once the water boils cover and reduce the flame to the lowest and let it cook on low flame for 20 minutes


Step 6

- After 20 minutes open the lid and you see that the black rice is nicely cooked

- Turn off the flame and let it sit

covered until it is being served serve the rice to our plate


Step 7

- Garnishing it with some freshly grated coconut.

You can enjoy this rice in salads or with any side dish of your choice.
